Fishing, especially fly-fishing, is in its infancy in Hungary. However, due to some generous funding from the EU along with the direction, leadership, tenacity and drive of certain individuals and angling organisations Hungary is an up and coming destination with a plethora of angling opportunities. Many of the streams that you will fish closely resemble classical English chalk and lowland streams with swaying weed-beds and crystal clear water, all with a healthy stock of trout, along with a myriad of coarse species – which take the fly with reckless abandon.

Accommodation

Can be tailored and arranged to your exacting needs. We can arrange anything from campsites, B&B’s, plus through to self-catering cottages. Contact us with your requirements and we will do the rest. Please note that cottages and self catering units should be booked several months in advance to assure availability – they book up fast, as can hotels and B&B’s.

Fishing licences and permits

Permits will be included in the price of the package and will be arranged prior to your arrival – they will await you at your accommodation, or your guide will have them for you on guided days. We want to make your stay as enjoyable and stress-free as possible, ensuring that’s all you have to concentrate on is catching fish!

Tackle

Any rod between 8ft and 9’6”ft with a line rating of between 3-6 will suffice for the trout; ideally an 8’6ft for 4-5 line. Reels are to your preference. A floating line is all that’s required to cover most eventualities. Nylon in strengths between 2-8lbs should be carried. Tackle is available on loan for those without suitable set-ups, and for those that don’t want the hassle of bringing fishing gear with them on holiday.

For coarse fishing; standard carp setups (2-3lbs test curve rods, 10-12lbs nylon) will suffice for the majority of the waters. Plugging rods should be carried for the pike and zander. Light spinning rods are ideal for the asp, with 8lbs line.
