River Till Salmon and Sea-trout fishing package / holidays, England.
River Till

The river Till shares its borders with Scotland and England - being regarded as an English river. The Till is one of the largest and lowest tributaries of the mighty Tweed – a river that requires no introduction. The Till is a river with tremendous character, changing almost from beat to beat as it flows through some of the most unspoilt scenery in the UK – a great place to go and relax, escape from the madding crowd.

The river Till is synonymous with early season sea-trout fishing where visiting anglers can expect good sport as early as March. This is one of our top early season packages, a great place to get rid of those winter cobwebs where there’s a superb chance of landing the first fish of the season. The river does fish well throughout the season. There’s usually a good head of salmon and grilse on-hand to keep the angler busy along with a very sizeable run of sea-trout, many of which are over 4lb – especially early in the season when fish of under 4lb are unlikely. Grayling sport can be prolific too, with the river being noted for its quality and quantity of this magical species.

The Till fishes very well in the evening, with small doubles fished through the runs and glides often producing long before darkness as descended. Indeed, daytime fishing in itself can be very prolific, where the angler stands a chance of hooking sea-trout as well as salmon.

The river Till is available on package breaks, be they guided or unguided, through Angling Worldwide. Whatever your requirements Angling Worldwide has got it covered! Contact us for more information on suitable packages and itineraries.

Fishing season

Salmon and sea-trout; although starting on the 1st of February and ending on the 30th of November, peak sport would vary according to river levels etc. However, as a guide, March-August can all be very good months for sea-trout (the early months can fish particularly well), with July and August being good overlapping months for Grilse. The back end salmon fishing can be good from October onwards, with the end of October being particularly fruitful, water allowing. Grayling fishing can be done in most months (1st June - March 31st), the Till has a sizeable stock of grayling, with some shoals and fish being very large indeed!

We have the knowledge to be able to advise you on when you should be where, so contact us with your requirements and we’ll do the rest.

 Accommodation

Can be tailored and arranged to your exacting needs. We can arrange anything from campsites, B&B’s, plush hotels, through to self-catering cottages. Contact us with your requirements and we will do the rest. Please note that cottages and self catering units should be booked several months in advance to assure availability – they book up fast, as can hotels and B&B’s.

Fishing licences and permits

You do require a migratory fish rod licence to fish on the Till (this will cover you for all species including Salmon, Sea-trout, and grayling). Permits will be included in the price of the package and will be arranged prior to your arrival. We want to make your stay as enjoyable and stress-free as possible, ensuring that’s all you have to concentrate on is catching fish!

Tackle

(Salmon); Single or double-handed rods can be used with line ratings of between 8-12; ideally a 10ft for 8 line if fishing a single hander or 13ft for 8/9 line if fishing a double hander. Reels are to your preference, but make sure that they have a decent drag system and plenty of backing! A range of lines should be carried to cover most eventualities However, a good money saving tip would be to carry poly-leader sets in 5ft and 10ft, which would reduce the lines that you have top carry to floating and intermediate. Tackle is available on loan for those without suitable set-ups, and for those that don’t want the hassle of bringing fishing gear with them on holiday. Spinning and bait fishing are viable and productive methods, condition allowing. We can advise you on suitable tackle to bring.

(Sea-trout); Any rod between 9ft and 10’6ft with a line rating of between 7-9 will suffice for sea-trout; usual resevoir/stillwater rods are great. Reels are to your preference, however, a decent drag system is recommended as is backing! A floating line, intermediate line, accompanied with some poly-leaders are all that’s required. Nylon in strengths of 8,10,12 and 15lbs, carry some 6+8lb fluorocarbon for the day and evening fishing. Tackle is available on loan for those without suitable set-ups, and for those that don’t want the hassle of bringing fishing gear with them on holiday. Spinning and bait fishing is permitted and we can advise you on what to bring if you wish to pursue these methods, which are very viable and successful when river conditions dictate.

(Grayling); Any rod between 8ft and 10ft with a line rating of between 3-6 will suffice for grayling; ideally a 9ft for 5 line. Reels are to your preference. A floating line is all that’s required. Nylon in strengths between 4-8lbs (beware, sea-trout will avidly take small trout/grayling flies so don’t fish too light) should be carried. Tackle is available on loan for those without suitable set-ups, and for those that don’t want the hassle of bringing fishing gear with them on holiday.

Clothing

chest waders are recommended, although wading above waist height is rarely necessary. Wading/rain jacket. A wading staff may be useful and buoyancy aids are highly recommended. Polarised sunglasses are a must for daytime fishing.

We can arrange a hire car from all major UK airports. Transfers can be arranged from railway stations to your accommodation, at an extra cost. The fishing guides can pick you up and take you back to your accommodation (on guided days), should you require this service.
